Perhaps for the price perhaps the rig isn't all bad, but in terms of function, it is.Firstly, while the unit appears to have a long bed, the actual stroke is all of four inches, meaning you have to cut a typical potato in half, and are stuck with midget fries. The unit does not come with a shoestring cutter. The unit feels unstable, giving the user the sensation that if any of the substantial force required to slice is not precisely applied, the unit will kick out from under them and fly across the room.My advice: spend a little more money and get something that works.
You will need to cut the potato, so you can cut the potato. We purchased one of these at the local kitchen store. We were very excited to be able to cut restauarant style fries at home. It makes no sense to me.Anyway, the blades are very dull and would not cut through the spud very easily.I thought the thing was going to break since it is 90% plastic. However, this machine was a total letdown. A regular size Idaho potato will not fit. My wife was unable to operate it.We cleaned it up and she returned it today. Clean up is easy, as the blades and pushing blocks detach very easily. We're looking into a commercial grade machine now.
If I just cut them to fit the slicer I end up with.5-2" fry stubs left over on the counter. yay.
What If I want fries or veggies longer than 4". It works fine and comes with 2 blades but why in the living h3ll would you make it 4" capacity.
If I cut my potatoes in half I get 2-3" fries. Why would you limit your customers to such a finite capacity.
Plus there are these little plastic halfmoon rail guides that leave 1.5" of empty space behind the pusher plate just unused. color me unimpressed.
This is a horrible product that could have easily been a 5 star if they had made it 3" larger (that's including the 1.5" of wasted space it already has).
Very weak design. Works only if you cut potato on small pieces or for a soft or cooked vegetables only. Cheap price and cheap quality. Would not recomment to buy.
Amazon failed to ship with in 30 days so I cancelled the order and bought one at Wallmart
